You might've heard through the grapevine that mobile carriers have implemented new restrictions surrounding A2P (application-to-person) messaging with standard 10-digit long codes (10DLC). If you haven't heard - no worries. That’s why we’re here to support you.
What is a 10-Digit Long Code?
A 10-digit long code is 'regular' phone number that consists of an area code and 7 additional numbers. US toll free numbers are not considered 10-digit long codes. Example: “555-555-5555”
I'm texting my constituents in the US using 10-digit long codes. What do I need to do?
Take 5 minutes to provide us with information in this form as soon as possible so that we can create Brand and Campaign registration on your behalf. We will let you know when your registration is complete.
What are brand and campaign registrations?
A brand represents who you are as an organization. A campaign represents a use case. You may need to declare multiple Campaigns if you have multiple types of messages (such as sending authentication codes, as well as marketing messages).
Why do I need to do this?
By providing us with this information, we'll be able to declare to mobile carriers (such as T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, etc) who you are and what types of messages you're sending. Declaring this information to us will ensure better delivery quality and lower your risk of carrier filtering. Beginning August 31, 2023, unregistered traffic will begin being blocked from some messaging partners.
What does it cost?
Mogli SMS clients who are on Starter, or Standard plans are limited to 3 campaigns and their brand & campaign fees are covered in the cost of their plan.
Mogli SMS clients who are on the Elite or Enterprise plan are not limited to the number of campaigns they can register, which results in their costs being passed along to them via deductions fromyour messaging partner account or prepayment.
- Initial brand registration for low volume <6,000 messages daily: $4
- Initial brand registration for standard volume >6,000 messages daily: $44
- Initial campaign registration incurs a one-time fee per campaign: $15
- Resubmission due to incorrect data will result in an addition $15 fee
Recurring Campaign Fees range from $1.50 - $10 per month based on campaign type
Grr... I don't want to do this! What happens if I don't register?
You will be subject to additional carrier fees and increased carrier filtering once mobile carriers solidify registration deadlines. Organizations who are not registered could see some or all of their text messages filtered or throttled by cellular phone carriers, meaning they will not be delivered to their intended recipients because they are not coming from a “verified” organization.
Important Dates to Know
- June 1, 2023: Messaging partners will increase carrier fees for unregistered traffic.
- July 5, 2023: Messaging partners will start gradually blocking messages destined for US phone numbers from 10DLC phone numbers that aren’t associated with a registered A2P campaign
- August 31, 2023: All unregistered traffic will be blocked, meaning unregistered numbers cannot send outbound messages.
How long does verification take?
The timeline for verification can vary based on the type of phone number being registered and the number of verification requests at a given time, but it can take a few weeks. Providing incomplete or incorrect information will result in longer verification timelines.
Can I send numbers prior to being verified?
10DLC numbers will begin having increased filtering July 5, 2023 and will begin full blocking of unregistered traffic on August 31, 2023. Specific limits have not been released.
